Marriage Licenses & Records (Delaware County, Indiana)
Marriage Application Requirements
Up to 60 days prior to the ceremony date, if the couple lives in Indiana, they can begin the process of filling out their marriage license application ONLINE at https://www.in.gov/courts/services/marriage-license. However, they will need to complete the application process in person together at the County Clerk’s office where they live.
To get a marriage license in Indiana:
- Both applicants must appear in person at the Clerk’s Office in an Indiana county where one of you resides. If neither of you lives in Indiana, apply in the county where the marriage will take place.
- Bring identification to prove your date of birth (such as a driver’s license, birth certificate, or passport). You will also need to provide your Social Security Number.
- If previously married, bring the date your last marriage ended (some counties may require a divorce decree).
- The fee is $25 for Indiana residents and $65 for out-of-state residents. Some counties may charge a small additional document fee.
- The license is valid for 60 days. If you do not marry within that time, you must reapply.
You can start your application online to save time, but you must still visit the Clerk’s Office to complete the process.

Marriage Records
The Clerk’s Office is responsible for preserving marriage records.
- Records dating 1827-1920 are available on microfilm
- Records dating 1920-present are available for viewing in the Clerk’s Office
The Clerk’s Office is required by Indiana Code to collect copy fees of $3.00 per page, plus an additional $1.00 per document for certification (IC 33-37-5-1 and 33-37-5-3).
